Akure Youth Media has officially launched a community storytelling initiative designed to give young people in Akure and other parts of Ondo State a platform to share local stories and report on issues affecting their communities.

The initiative, which was announced on Monday in Akure, seeks to encourage youth participation in journalism, media production, and digital storytelling. According to the organisers, the project will focus on education, entrepreneurship, culture, governance, and community development.

Speaking at the launch, a representative of Akure Youth Media said the platform was created to bridge the gap between mainstream media and grassroots communities, especially among young people whose voices are often underrepresented.

“We want young people to tell their own stories in their own words. This initiative is about giving them the tools and exposure needed to report responsibly and creatively,” the representative said.

The organisation noted that contributors will receive basic media training, editorial guidance, and opportunities to have their work published across Akure Youth Media’s digital platforms, including its website and social media channels.

Residents and youth groups in Akure have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a positive step toward inclusive media representation and youth empowerment.

Akure Youth Media stated that the storytelling project will run throughout the year and is open to students, creatives, and community members interested in media and communication.
